Term 3 2018 Newsletter

Kerikeri Gymnastics Newsletter Term 3 2018

Welcome to all our new families to Kerikeri district. Gymnastics is a place your child will learn and develop their gymnastic abilities and enjoy and be proud of their progressions.

The past term moving between venues has hopefully settled with the return to Sammaree Place. Thanks to all who helped with the move!

Membership

There are some imminent changes to the way gymnastics membership operates.  Like many other clubs, we are going to use an online database, supported by Gymnastics New Zealand. No more membership forms! You will see this rolling out in term 4. If you don’t have internet access at home, it can be done on the gym computer.

Admin role – paid help needed!!

The committee are looking for someone available approximately 6 hours a week to help with Gym administration and receiving enquiries during our sessions. Likely hours would be Monday-Wednesday 3-5pm. Please contact Janet  0210517766 ASAP.

Health and Safety

It is concerning that children are being left to wait after their class has finished. Please, please collect or organise children to be collected on time. Our coaches are still busy on the floor with other gymnasts and cannot babysit.

Please do not send unwell children to gymnastics, and please inform us if they are carrying an injury.

Overdue Payments

Your gymnastics fees are crucial to the running of the club. A portion goes to Gymnastics New Zealand, our parent body. The rest toward the building, equipment, and wages. There is currently $2000 outstanding from last term. Please pay your fees on time – if this is a problem, we can do instalments.

Cleaning

We are desperate for more people to join the cleaning/vacuuming roster. Cleaning the toilet areas etc (approx 30 mins) or vacuuming 2+ hours weekly.  We need a vacuum cleaner for the gym – if anyone has access to an industrial type vacuum cleaner please let the committee know. Contact Rebecca 0273727712. Thursday/Friday early evening or the weekend are probably the best times to clean.

Fundraising

The club runs on volunteer help, and our parents are a wonderful resource with many connections in our community.  Please contact Heather ahgemacmillan@gmail.com

if you are interested in helping in fundraising or Grant application efforts.  Gymnastics equipment is expensive to replace, and our sprung gym floor is requiring replacement soon. Also, watch out for sausage sizzles in terms 3 and 4.  The Kerikeri Half marathon on November 17th is another opportunity to volunteer, proceeds go to the club.

Leotards

Club leotards are available for purchase short sleeved $60, long sleeved $80.

Our competitive gymnasts require a leotard and tracksuit for competition. If you have a gymnast in this category, please consider helping with the organisation/stocktake of these, each year we lose some of these expensive items. See Janet 0210517766 if you can help.

Committee

Committee meets monthly currently on a Tuesday evening, and would love to have more people involved to share the load. If you can’t commit to an evening meeting but can help at the club with other jobs like cleaning, please talk to one of the committee. Next meeting Tuesday 11th September 7.15pm

The committee is Heather MacMillan, Michelle Robinson, Rebecca Davison, Janet McLea, Sarah Lawrence, Tracey Glentworth (Treasurer), Jodi Sosich.

Birthday Parties

Our young coaches are getting the gym prepared for accommodating birthday party groups. A fairy grotto and gym activities will be available for a 2 hour booking, enquire for available dates.

Kerikeri Club Ribbon day 22nd Sept- Recreational routines.

Our ribbon day is an opportunity for our non competitive gymnasts to perform the routines that they have learned this term in a friendly environment and to give them the experience of performing in front of people. They are performance judged and each gymnast receives a ribbon and certificate. We will need help from parents with providing food/help for the canteen, collating scores, writing up certificates..

Ribbon Days at Active Attitude (Whangarei) for Steps 1-3

Saturday 27th October 1pm

Saturday 10th November 1pm.

This is a friendly competition especially for those competing for the first time,to perform routines which are judged, with ribbons awarded but no placings, however these competitions marks will be counted towards qualification.
