WHAT IS PROJECT ACTIVATE?
This project is all about fundraising for and building a new indoor recreational facility for the Bay of Islands. Driven by the Kerikeri Gymnastics Club in partnership with Baysports in Waipapa.[hr]
WHY DOES THE COMMUNITY NEED A NEW INDOOR RECREATIONAL CENTRE?
Initially it was conceived out of a need for a new gymnastics facility to be built due to overwhelming demand and club growth. The scope for its usage has now expanded as a result of other sporting codes and community groups having approached the club to be included.[hr]
WHERE WILL THIS INDOOR RECREATIONAL CENTRE BE BUILT?
After careful consideration of different options and locations around the Kerikeri area along with the costs associated we have gratefully accepted an offer from Baysports in Waipapa to locate this facility on their land next to the soccer fields.
Kerikeri Gymnastics Inc have signed a memorandum of understanding with Baysports to proceed with this.[hr]
WHEN WILL IT BE BUILT?
While we will aim to begin construction during 2018-9 it will depend on the project’s funding situation. A lot of work needs to go into grant applications, fundraising and seeking community support to make this happen.[hr]
WHO IS DRIVING THIS PROJECT?
While Baysport is instrumental in providing the land for this facility, the funding is being driven by the Kerikeri Gymnastics Club and its volunteers.[hr]
HOW WILL IT BE FUNDED?
The project team is currently putting together a funding strategy that will include a combination of community grant applications, sponsorship packages and community fundraising events. The building project has been quoted at up to $1.1million to complete.[hr]
WHO WILL USE THE INDOOR RECREATION CENTRE WHEN IT’S FINISHED?
The principal user will be the Kerikeri Gymnastics Club however there will be scope for other clubs, groups and users to use this facility. Any interested groups should contact the Kerikeri Gymnastics Club and any support that can be provided for this project would be appreciated.

HOW CAN YOU HELP WITH PROJECT ACTIVATE?
- WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help with a number of different tasks and roles to be involved with the project and fundraising initiatives. It doesn’t matter how little time you may be able to contribute, or what skills you can offer – all volunteers are appreciated and a variety of skills needed.
